Our Mission

The JPK International Ice Hockey Academy (JIHA) is an internationally recognized development environment that offers players, mainly aged 17–19, the opportunity to combine English-language secondary education (Vocational Qualification in Business) with high-level ice hockey coaching in a safe, supportive, and community-oriented environment in Alajärvi, Finland.

JIHA – Strategic Objective

High-Quality Education and Its Opportunities

JIHA provides students with a strong educational pathway in cooperation with Järviseutu Vocational Institute (JAMI).
The English-language Vocational Qualification in Business offers excellent readiness for further studies and future careers both in Finland and internationally.
The goal is to seamlessly combine education and sports, enabling students to develop both their academic skills and athletic potential without compromising either.

Athletic Development and Well-Being

JIHA offers high-level coaching for players aiming toward international junior leagues, collegiate programs, or even professional careers.
Training consists of regular morning practices, team training sessions, and competitive play with JPK’s U18 or men’s representative team.
Close training environments, modern facilities, and proximity to nature support the athletes’ overall well-being.
The goal is to develop athletes who grow into physically, mentally, and socially balanced individuals.

Attractiveness and Vitality of the Alajärvi Region

JIHA makes Alajärvi an appealing alternative to major city sports academies.
The region’s strengths include a safe and close-knit community, high-quality training conditions, and the affordability of living and studying.
Alajärvi’s small size is an advantage – it enables individualized support, a peaceful everyday life, and close cooperation networks between the school, the club, and the community.
The academy’s activities enhance the city’s vitality by increasing the number of young people in the area, supporting local services, and creating new cooperation opportunities for businesses.
The development of JIHA strengthens Alajärvi’s position as an international hub for education and sports.

Community and Local Engagement

JIHA builds a community where international students and local actors connect in everyday life.
The goal is to strengthen cross-cultural understanding, inclusion, and a sense of belonging.
Operations are based on collaboration with local businesses, clubs, and educational institutions, supporting young people’s integration into the region and creating new opportunities for employment and further studies.
The JIHA project (JPK International Hockey Academy) establishes a model where sports serve as a means of integration, community building, and cultural exchange.
